How long are my strips for the 40 minute quilt?

How do I calculate the length of my strips? Answer: The 40 minute quilt is made up from scrap strips, each cut 2.5" wide by whatever length your material is. Valerie joined lots together to get her quilt top. In order to work out how long you want you need to think about the size you want to create  and will there be borders? - if not then the calculation goes like this: For each strip sewn it will become 2" wide and if you want it to be 40" in the other direction then just divide the size - say 60" by 2 = 30 strips at 40 This can also be made with a ready-bought jelly roll - just look at the number of strips in it.

October Sewing retreat with Sarah, and Pauline (and Valerie was there too)

The weekend of 13-14 October these three joined forces to teach at the Justhands-on.tv retreat at Denham Grove.  30 ladies spent two days sewing - jelly rolls with Sarah; Layer cake quilts with Pauline and Valerie's class worked on projects of their own choosing; They all had so much fun that a repeat event has been  planned for 2019! There is a choice of sewing one of these two wonderful jelly roll quilts with Sarah - skill level challenging   or one of these two with Pauline - skill level beginner - again from jelly rolls.

Beachomber fabric range from Makower

Valerie received another promo pack of 10inch squares from Makower covering this lovely range and  decided to use them to create this lovely quilt, inspired by a pattern from Stephanie Prescott called Plus and Minus; Valerie had to change the size of the pieces so that they could be cut from the layer cake, and because she had bits over, designed a pieced border to use them up - but is very pleased with the end result.

Counting Sheep and Merryn – two new cot quilts from Valerie

I was a lucky girl to receive promo 10 inch squares of these two fabric ranges from Makower Fabrics;  while the size of the squares were the same the number of them varied betyween the two designs,  but I was still able to produce two delightful little quilts (for my Momentum charity) with a quick and easy slash quilt idea.
