Ideas for the backing of your quilt together with ideas for using up leftovers.
Valerie shows you some alternative ways of making the backing fabric stretch with the help of some quilts from her quilting friends and students.
You need to remember that the backing and the wadding should be the same size as each other, and bigger than the quilt front by about 3″ all round. This allows for any take-up in the quilting and also gives a fudge factor when layering up!
So with this is mind, the backing fabric is often just not big/wide enough. Valerie talks us through a few ways of using fabrics that might be left overs as well as some tips on what to avoid.
Once you have made the fabric big enough, you need to layer, quilt and bind! If you need help on this in the workshop which forms the final part of the Block of the Month Series Your First Sampler Quilt with Valerie click here
Valerie is the founder and Creative Director of justhands-on.tv , as well as our very own ‘Queen of Scrap’. She founded Creative Quilting, a quilt quilt shop in Hampton Court, where she still teaches to this day.
