Darlene has a variety of projects in this lovely book which are themed for each month of the year;  January is the 54-40 or Fight block

and there is an interesting variation on the log cabin which is set on point with a scalloped border.

Most of the quilts use her range of E-Z rulers (such as the Tri Recs Tool for the 54-40 block) but these are not essential to complete the project.  Easy piecing techniques and projects for all skill levels are contained in this beautifully illustrated book.
