Description

A useful little block to learn which is created very simply from four Half-square triangle units.

A very useful unit

The pinwheel is a very useful little unit which can be used in all sorts of quilts and in all different sizes – which are easy to calculate since you use 4 of them.

You do need to pay attention to the way the wheels spin – they should all spin in the same direction – but hey-ho you could decide that its a design feature if they don’t (see if anyone notices if you don’t mention it!)

More on the half-square triangle

In this block we again work on the half-square triangle unit but smaller; we continue to use the method of sew first and then trim back to allow us to have accurate piecing on the sewing machine.

Use Scraps another time

Pinwheels are a brilliant way of using up small scraps of fabric which in turn would make a lovely scrap quilt.

Jelly Roll Quilt (or 2 ½” strip) option

You could create this unit from 2 ½” strips of fabric (i.e. jelly rolls) in conjunction with the Thangles product
