Description

This lovely block always needs to be set on point to enjoy it to the full and while Valerie has used Lewis & Irene fabrics the block is great when made up with scraps too.

Valerie guides you through how to make the  basket block (just one of many basket designs that are available, but this is easy to make); talks you through the segments that are needed – triangles, rectangles and squares – and then the sewing sequence.

The block really comes into it’s own because it is set on point and if you want you can make just one block and turn it into a cushion and/or bag by just adding large setting triangles

Talking about setting triangles – when you make a quilt where  the blocks are set on point, then you do need to think about the outside setting triangles – both along the sides (and that includes top and bottom) and also the corners – these are created differently so that the grain is in the right place – and again Valerie explains why.

The quilt being used in the demo has been created with a range of fabrics from Lewis & Irene and not all from the same range – just to show how well fabrics can blend together.

Valerie also discussed the pro’s and con’s of using direction fabrics;  you can than make a decision about whether you like the effect or not.
