American Hand Piecing interview with Paula Doyle
American Hand Piecing Series with Paula Doyle • Educational, G, 01-Feb-2018
American hand patchwork piecing is not done over papers but sewn together with a simple running stitch. You will easily create blocks of patchwork. By being sewn by hand it means that it is very portable. However, the quilts are still very strong.
Paula shows us a few of her hand-made quilts. She explains that she loves to make a series of blocks – maybe a sampler. And when there are enough blocks, she then creates the quilt by adding sashing and borders.
When times were tough and fabric scarce (or just too expensive) the American ladies would use the feed sacks to make quilts as these were easily available and printed with a variety of colours.
For our subscribed viewers Paula has very kindly offered the notes and templates for creating her Hummingbird and Starflowers quilt.
