A Slice of Quilt Art challenge the 21 members to make small quilts rather than their usual large wallhangings.
This exhibition was created for the Festival of Quilts exhibition as part of Quilt Art’s 25th anniversary celebrations for 2010. The 21 members challenged themselves to make quilts that departed from their customary format of large hangings; each member was encouraged to experiment and take risks. The quilts are small, long and narrow and some are three-dimensional.
This is a delightful exhibition and our guide is Janet Twinn who is not only part of the group but also teaches City & Guilds Creative Studies in Patchwork & Quilting; more information can be obtained from her own website www.janettwinn.co.uk
The group was formed 25 years ago by Inge Hueber who remains a member today with the original members being drawn from the UK but by now the group has broadened out to have members from all over the world
The group opened another exhibition at Bankfield Museum in Halifax called Quilt Art at 25 and this is now touring, including going to Prague in April 2011. The quilts from this exhibition and from A Slice of Quilt Art are featured in the book Quilt Art at 25 which is available for purchase £15 (US$20). For more information on tour dates and venues and/or to purchase a copy of the book you can check their website for more information www.quiltart.eu.
