Drunkards Path or New York Beauty with Sue Rhodes

For beginners and beyond there is a lovely modern Drunkards Path quilt. This quilt contains traditional Drunkards Path blocks, but they are much larger than usual at 10 inches finished, so it grows quickly and is quite economical with fabric.

The alternative quilt you could choose is a New York Beauty, inspired by the points of the headdress worn by the Statue of Liberty. Learn how to sew this lovely block to make a small throw. The pastel fabrics and the off centre layout of the blocks gives the quilt a contemporary feel. The technique used to create the blocks is firstly a unique method of quick foundation piecing followed by curved piecing. You can also start a larger New York Beauty quilt which uses a jelly roll for the coloured elements available All the projects will have a full requirements list. The New York Beauty quilts are a little more challenging, but if you have some experience of foundation piecing they are very achievable.

The weekend will explore these techniques and give you the skills to continue your work confidently at home. The layout you finally choose, along with your colours and quilting will give you a unique and beautiful piece of work to treasure.
