Well we have 5 Friday’s in this month so lots to enjoy and we start off with Part two of the visit we made to the Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate back in 2012;  this time we are enjoying meeting some of the traders and catching up with what they have to offer as well as a very enjoyable interview with Susan Briscoe who is well known for her Japanese quilts.

Maggie Davies introduces us to her world of Hot Ribbon Art – this is a fused ribbon which she combines with beautiful applique.

Valentina Brunn joins us again and we enjoy working with a product called Tyvek ;  she tells us you can only destroy this through heat but she turns this into little pieces of art to add to her landscape pictures.

Jennie continues with her Superstar medallion quilt – this time adding the Triangle Border .
Valerie reminds us that you can applique the Grandmothers’ Fan onto the background by hand (we tend to forget that handwork is very appealing) as well as using up some scraps to make a simple red/white (or purple) quilt.   She also shows how to add simple Cafe Loops to a project so that you can hang it on the wall – great for advent calendars.

For those who push the textile boundary a little we meet up with Dee Paramour and the Decolourant range of products  which remove the colour from fabric – rather like bleach but in a very safe way;   Dee also uses products that can easily be found in the home , such as bubble wrap and kitchen foil so you don’t have a vast expense before you can play.

If you have an Overlocker (or Serger) machine then you will enjoy the workshop with Jennie where she uses the machine to create a Crazy Log Cabin (but if you don’t have an overlocker, don’t be put off, you can use the technique with your regular sewing machine).

And we enjoy learning from the girls at Midsomer Quilting on how they layer up a very large quilt in doublequick time.

As a subscribed member you can also enter into our wonderful  Aurifil Threads Prize giveaway – more information on the competition page.

So lots to enjoy during May if you are a subscribed member.
