On a Wing with Janet Clare

We had some very happy ladies join us for this weekend which we had to postpone at the start of lockdown.

Saturday

Janet joined us on the big screen, as she was self-isolating. Thank goodness for modern technology.

With a constant flow of coffee and tea, everyone settled in whilst Janet introduced her quilt to the group. Janet  continued ‘zooming’ with us. She made the blocks along with us. and was available all morning for questions. Valerie Nesbitt, our Creative Director, offered a guiding hand and advice in the sewing room throughout the weekend.

It was difficult to get anyone to stop for a break or even lunch! It was heads down all the way.

Janet was back on the big screen after lunch for the next stage of the quilt, then it was heads down again until supper time. However, some ladies took advantage of the swimming pool and gym before supper. Although a few of the ladies stayed in the sewing room until past midnight, most went to bed early so they were ready for the next stages of the quilt on Sunday morning feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Sunday

Janet joined us straight after breakfast to go through her unique style of free motion quilting and applique. Valerie and Maggie helped the group get their machines ready so they had the correct quilting foot and their feed dogs were down. Then it was all systems go!

After a typical Sunday lunch it was back to work to get ready for a show and tell with Janet.

Although we had not anticipated a tutor not being able to join us in person, everyone felt that the big screen teaching had worked. Everyone left Denham Grove tired  with some amazing work created.

It was so nice to see everyone relaxed and enjoying the weekend. It was obvious they were all very happy to be away with like-minded people and doing what they wanted to do the whole weekend in a relaxed environment with most social restrictions lifted.

In September Sue Rhodes is teaching the Drunkard’s Path or New York Beauty. This is at the Langstone Quays in Hampshire on 11-12 September.

In October, Sarah Soward is back again, this time getting scrappy at Langstone Quays in Hampshire on 2-3 October. Valerie Nesbitt is also there if you’d prefer to bring along your UFO’s, WIP’s and PhD’s or be inspired by a project of hers.

Later in October Gail Penberthy has a Fleece treats at her sewing weekend on 23-24 October at The Hogs Back in Surrey.

In addition, on all our weekends, if you don’t fancy booking a class you are always welcome to join us in the sewing corner as a day or residential student. This is subject to availability. You can finish your UFO’s or even start a new project without interruptions.
