Meet Daphne Morris – a passionate knitter

Valerie has known Daphne Morris for over 30 years through Creative Quilting, but only discovered recently Daphne’s passion for knitting since the age of 4! Daphne shows Valerie a snapshot of her works over the last 60 years including the oldest piece she owns and you’ll see every piece has a tale to tell. Daphne also shows us some of the upcoming workshops she has for us   Watch Now+

How to knit the Mock cable stitch with Daphne Morris

In Daphne’s first workshop, she shows us how easy it is to create the texture of cable. She does this without the need of a traditional cable needle, eliminating the need to move some of the stitches. Daphne also encourages you to think about inserting this texture as a short insertion as well as possibly from top to bottom, as is often the case for traditional cable. There are free workshop notes available for everyone.  Watch Now+

How to make a Sewing Machine Cover with Jennie Rayment

Dust, fluff and small children are not good for your sewing machine, so Jennie has come up with this easy idea for a cover to keep your machine protected from life’s mischiefs.  In this very comprehensive workshop Jennie talks you through how to make the cover. You could also adapt it for any household appliance or indeed a trolley cart. Rather than leave the front and back of the cover plain, Jennie shows you how to include a circle and/or heart motives in applique, AND she talks you through how to make it lined as well. Watch Now+

Star Crochet Hexagons  with Jane Czaja

This is the third hexagon design that Jane has shared with us and again she uses 5mm hook and Aran yarn. Jane takes you through the various stages to create this lovely star hexagon, which will work beautifully with the other two designs of plain and flower hexagon. Keep an eye out later this month as we will have the final workshop in the series as Jane shows you how to crochet all your pieces together. Watch Now+

You can finish your UFO’s or even start a new project without interruptions.

New in the Shop

Calling all textilers. You may remember a Blog post recently about Schultz & Wiremu Fabric Effects They are a family-run business, who have been creating fabric effects for Film and Theatre since 1983. Read Now+

As the pandemic struck, they found they were having little or no work. So, they turned tide a little and invested in building an online shop, SWFXShop.com,  selling exclusive products they use in their usual work – tools, brushes, dyes. They realised it
was difficult to buy small quantities of some products, so collaborated with some of their usual suppliers and have created some great small  accessible quantities of these products.

We have some of the products listed in our Shop for you, including Dypro Multi-Purpose Dye. 100g tins – available in 24 colours. This is new in our Shop and you can pick the colours you want all on one page in the Shop.  We also have a Small Brush Set; a Superior Acrylic Long Handled Brush Set; a small pair of Embroidery Scissors; perfect for all your intricate fabric needs; and a 26cm pair of Premium Fabric Scissors.
