Tulip Log Cabin patchwork with Valerie Nesbitt

These tulip blocks are simple to make and combine with an even simpler plain block in this delightful little quilt.  Valerie guides you through the various parts of this delightful design. You could easily use up  several scraps of fabric to create a wide variety of tulip colours.  And it is very easy to make a larger quilt – just make more blocks!!! (plus a few more setting triangles). The quilt was designed to use 2 ½”  strips for the tulip logs and 2 ½” squares with the stitch/n/flip sewing method,  so you could use up your jelly roll;  you will need other fabric, though for the alternative plain block. Hexagons Crochet series Part 1 with Jane Czaja

In this workshop, Jane creates a plain hexagon crochet shape with a 5mm hook using aran weight yarn. She says you could also work it in double knitting with a 4mm hook. You will see how to start the centre of the hexagon with a ring, which can be a little tricky.

Then Jane takes us through the 1st and 2nd rounds, at which point the hexagon shape starts to appear.  Jane says to keep an eye on the stitch count, which increases on each round up to 9 on the final, fourth round.

This is one of three different hexagon crochet shapes that Jane Czaja is going to share with you. We have a flower hexagon and a star hexagon to come in the series. They are all made the same size, having 9 on the final round count.

To make the finished project more interesting, Jane suggests you could think about using several colours.  Watch Now+

If you’d
like to make a throw / rug like the ones Jane shows in the workshop, there is a pattern available in the Shop as an instant download. Buy Now+

Schultz & Wiremu Fabric Effects – A new direction

The current pandemic has made people look in all different directions as lives change. Schultz & Wiremu Fabric Effects are one such business. They are a family-run business, run by husband and wife team Miriam Schultz and Kevin Wiremu, who have been creating fabric effects for Film and Theatre since 1983. But as the pandemic struck, they found they were having little or no work. So, they turned tide a little and have invested in building an online shop. We will be shortly be selling some of their new products here, so if you are a keen textile artist, keep an eye out on our Shop in the coming weeks. Check out our Blog in the meantime to read more about them. Read Now+
