Rotary cutting for Beginners with Sallieann Harrison

Rotary cutting your fabric is  a ‘must have’ skill for today’s patchworker.  You can cut several layers of fabric, accurately and quickly which means that your piecing is then accurate too.  These tools have been designed with quilters in mind. Sallieann takes you through the various options on the equipment – cutter, rulers and boards. She then takes you through the ‘how to’, using strips of black fabric that will be needed in her upcoming patchwork series for beginners.  Watch Now+

How to Create stunning cushions from shirts with Valerie Nesbitt

Recycling is definitely good for the soul. Not only does it reduce waste BUT if the fabric has an emotional attachment it has so much more meaning. This is such a simple idea that makes the most of the shirt fronts. You could also think about using the cuffs in much the same way – no buttonholes for you to make!  Watch Now+

Crochet Crunchy Tablet Cosy with Jane Czaja

Jane makes this useful tablet cosy in crunchy stitch which is a simple combination of half-treble and slipstitch. The cosy is very easy to adjust for size as its made as a single vertical piece, but even when you’ve completed it, if you find it a little snug, then Jane comes up with a very clever idea for adding to the top edge. Jane also covers the making of two different chain ties for the cosy – both of which are easy.  Watch Now+

Adding Satin Stitch to your Tuck edges from Jennie Rayment

Jennie is well know for her twiddling and fiddling. These tucks are no exception. Easy to do with the help of your machine and Jennie talks you through how to get the best out of your machine. She also focuses on its stitching and gives you some hints on the width and length of the zig-zag; mentions that it is essential to have the right foot on the machine, and to get the best out of your machine you need to run it FAST!  and think about the thread – variegated would give you some wonderful results. Watch Now+

Mini Beads workshop with Linda Seward

One day Linda Seward found herself with a less than perfect drawing! – what to do?  Maybe this would be an embellishment opportunity? Well, that is indeed what she managed to do. This was with the help of some micro mini beads that she found in the nail section of her pharmacy. Linda also shares with us a little tip about the use of her Inktense pencils and Aloe Vera gel.  Watch Now+

Modern Quilts with Valerie Nesbitt

Traditionally patchwork consists of taking perfectly good fabric, cutting it up into little pieces and then sewing it back together again! To create a modern (looking) quilt you do the same thing. Here though the pieces are bigger so that the feature fabric is showcased. There is lots of background fabric – often grey or tone/tone white or cream.  The quilting is simple too – often straight lines with the walking foot. Watch Now+

Giveaway for Paid Subscribers

This month’s giveaway for Paid Subscribers is a Fat 8ths pack in these eight luscious colours from Oakshott Fabrics. The Fat 8ths are 10″ x 27″ / 25 cm x 69 cm. They are 100% mercerised shot cottons – the colourway combines a base colour warp with a complementary or contrasting weft thread. This produces the trademark ‘shot’ effect when colours appear to shimmer and ‘move’ depending on how the light falls. It lends extra depth and texture to your project. You can use them for quilting, patchwork and general sewing. To enter the competition just send an email entitled OAKSHOTT to justhandsontvcomp@gmail.com  The competition closes 31st August 2021.

Happy sewing and stay safe
